Police arrest four for string of offences in Melton West

Detectives from the Melton Volume Crime Team charged two men and two teenage boys Sunday afternoon following a series of offending in Melbourne's western suburbs.

It is alleged the four stole a Honda CRV in Tarneit on 8 March and a Mazda CX-7 in Brookfield on 17 April.

It's also believed the four stole registration plates from Delahey on 20 March before stealing petrol from a service station on 17 April in Melton South and on the 19 April in Hillside and Melton.

The quartet came to police attention yesterday when they allegedly attempted to steal from parked cars in the Brookfield area before being arrested in the stolen Honda and Mazda in Kurunjang after a short police pursuit about 3.50pm.

Two 15-year-old Brookfield boys were charged with two counts of theft of motor vehicle, handle stolen goods, two counts of theft of petrol, attempted theft from motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, failing to stop on police request, dangerous driving whilst being pursued by police and committing an indictable offence whilst on bail.

The 20 and 18-year-old men, both from Kurunjang, were charged with theft of motor vehicle, handle stolen goods, two counts each of theft of petrol and attempted theft of motor vehicle.

The Brookfield teens were remanded in custody to appear at a children's court at a later date.

The men were bailed to the Sunshine Magistrates' Court on the 4 August.

Whilst committing the alleged offences, the four were also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and were issued a $1652 penalty notice.

The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Emergency declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.
