Police arrest man after Ascot Vale assaults

Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man following several assault matters in Ascot Vale yesterday (6 May).

The first incident took place on a bus travelling along Charles Street when it is understood two men were involved in an altercation about 1.50pm.

Both men got off the bus, with one man allegedly producing a knife before the second man ran off without sustaining any injuries.

It is alleged the man was then involved in an attempted carjacking on Burrowes Street, where a 39-year-old woman was assaulted.

She did not require medical treatment and the vehicle was not stolen.

The man was then allegedly involved in a third incident shortly after on Ascot Street, where a man was punched to the face.

A 21-year-old Flemington man was arrested soon after and has since been charged with a number of assault related offences.

He has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrate's Court on 7 August, 2019
