Police arrest man after assault and intimidation at Lake Illawarra

A man has been arrested following an investigation into alleged sexual assault matters and inappropriate behaviour towards females in the Lake Illawarra Region.

On Friday (27 September 2019), officers from Lake Illawarra Police District became aware of a post on social media relating to concerns about alleged approaches in the Port Kembla and Wollongong areas.

Police were told a man had allegedly harassed two women on two separate occasions during the week.

On Thursday (26 September 2019), a 20-year-old woman was walking at 7am near Port Kembla Beach, when a man approached her, allegedly made inappropriate comments and hugged her without consent.

At 12.30pm on the same day, another woman was approached by a man at Wollongong Railway Station who allegedly engaged in inappropriate conversation and behaviour with her.

About 8pm on Friday (27 September 2019), the incidents were reported to police at Lake Illawarra Police Station and officers commenced inquiries.

At 12.30am today (Saturday 28 September 2019), police arrested a man at a home on Dovers Drive in Port Kembla.

The 31-year-old man was charged with assault and intimidation.

He was released on strict conditional bail to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 9 October 2019.
