Police arrest man after attacking police officer at Ryde

A man has been arrested after allegedly attacking a police officer with a knife in Sydney's north-west today.

About 8.45am (Wednesday 21 August 2019), officers from Ryde Police Area Command were on Culloden Road near Waterloo Road, Marsfield, when they observed a man walking in the middle of the roadway.

Officers approached the man and asked him to move to the footpath and when they attempted to guide him off the road, a physical altercation took place and he allegedly struck a male constable with a knife to the arm, causing a laceration.

A Taser was deployed, and the man was arrested.

NSW Ambulance paramedics have taken the man under police guard to Royal North Shore Hospital for assessment.

The officer was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not life-threatening.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has commenced.
