Police arrest man after carjackings and pursuit in Frankston

Police arrested a 30-year-old man following two carjackings and a pursuit through Frankston overnight.

Police have been told a woman was loading her groceries into her vehicle in the car park of a Beach Street shopping centre about 4.30pm yesterday.

She was approached by a man who climbed into the passenger seat while armed with a knife and demanded she drive.

The male offender dropped the uninjured 74-year-old woman at a service station on Forest Drive in Frankston North and drove off in the woman's car shortly before 5pm.

The stolen car was found after police were notified that a vehicle had crashed into a pole and the driver had run off on Frankston-Dandenong Road about 6.25pm.

A short time later, the same offender armed with a knife threatened a man on Belvedere Road in Seaford before stealing his white Toyota Camry sedan about 7.30pm.

The stolen Toyota was later spotted by police near Beach Street just after 11pm.

Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle when the driver failed to pull over.

With assistance from the Air Wing, the car was located and stop sticks were successfully deployed on Parer Street.

The vehicle came to a stop on Allawah Avenue just after midnight and the offender ran from the scene.

He was arrested by the Dog Squad nearby.

A Carrum Downs man was taken to hospital and is currently under hospital guard.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
