Police arrest man after Darley assault

Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have arrested a man this morning as part of an investigation into a serious sexual and physical assault in Darley last week.

It's believed a 32-year-old Darley man met a 39-year-old female Vietnamese national via a dating app several weeks ago and they began a relationship.

The man picked up the woman in a vehicle from a suburban business about 6.30pm on Monday, 25 March and drove her to his house on Grey Street, Darley.

The victim was then imprisoned inside the property and threatened with a number of weapons, including a crossbow.

She was also repeatedly sexually and physically assaulted over a four-day period.

On Thursday, 29 March friends of the victim's contacted the man asking for information on her whereabouts.

He subsequently released her the following day from the property and she went to a friend's house, before reporting the matter to police.

The woman was then conveyed to hospital via ambulance with serious head and body injuries.

The man was arrested by Sexual Crimes Squad detectives at his address in Darley this morning and he is currently being interviewed.

He is expected to be charged this afternoon and is likely to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

At this time police are not aware of any specific similar incidents occurring, however would be keen to speak to anyone who has further information.
