Police arrest man after explosives seized at Direk, South Australia

Police are investigating after explosive substances and equipment was located at a property in Direk today.

Just before 9am on Wednesday 24 August, members from Serious and Organised Crime Branch attended and searched an address on Desyllas Drive in relation to an ongoing investigation.

During the search, police located and seized instructions, precursor chemicals and equipment capable of being used for the manufacturing of explosives.

Members from STAR Bomb Response Unit seized the explosive substances and are in the process of disposing of them safely.

Whilst police were searching the address, some neighbouring residents were evacuated for safety reasons. Emergency Services are still on scene with some road diversions remaining in place. Police will be remaining at the scene well into the evening.

A 60-year-old Direk man has been arrested and charged with possessing instructions and taking steps to manufacture explosives. He has been refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
