Police Arrest Man After Fatal Crash - Yarramundi

A man is in police custody following a fatal alleged hit-and-run in Sydney's north-west.

Emergency services were called to Springwood Road at Yarramundi, after the body of a man was found on the roadside about 11.30pm on Monday 11 August 2025.

Initial inquiries indicate the man died after being hit by a vehicle that allegedly failed to stop.

Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU), took over inquiries and established Strike Force Yetmore to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

An appeal for information was made on Tuesday 12 August 2025 and, about 7.30pm that evening, a member of the public alerted police to a damaged vehicle seen abandoned in Glenbrook.

A crime scene was established, and a black 2005-model Ford Fiesta – with damage to the front and windscreen – was towed for further examination. It had not been reported stolen.

Following inquiries, about 12.40pm today (Thursday 14 August 2025) strike force detectives arrested a 39-year-old man on Mort Street, Lithgow.

He was taken to Lithgow Police Station for further inquiries.

Inquiries continue.
