Police Arrest Man After Flemington Crash

Police have arrested a man after a car crashed into a barrier and rolled in Flemington this morning.

Officers received calls to attend the crash on Racecourse Road about 1.45am on 30 June.

It is alleged a man and a woman were seen trying to kick in the windscreen of the crashed vehicle before taking several items and fleeing.

Local officers and a member of the Dog Squad were quickly on scene and started a search for the couple.

The Dog Squad located a man hiding in a recycling bin in a nearby laneway.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was placed under arrest and taken to hospital under police guard.

Further enquires have revealed the car was stolen and a searched of the vehicle uncovered a firearm, drugs and a machete.

The woman is yet to be located.
