Police arrest man after Footscray burglary

A man has been arrested after breaking into a Footscray home earlier this morning.

Witnesses contacted police after seeing the man allegedly trying car-door handles and entering in and out of front yards of houses on Mavis Street just after 10am.

Local police with the assistance of the Air Wing, the dog squad and the Critical Incident Response Team attended after the man refused to come out of a house he had allegedly broken into on Ballarat Road.

Police negotiated with the man for a short time before he came out of the house and was arrested.

Ballarat Road was closed for a short time as a precaution but has since re-opened.

The man, aged in his 20s, has been arrested and is expected to be interviewed later this afternoon in relation to burglary and associated offences.
