Police arrest man after road rage incident, police pursuit - Lurnea

A man has been arrested over an alleged road rage incident and police pursuit in Sydney's west.

About 11.20am today (Tuesday 20 September 2022), a member of the public alerted an officer attached to Bankstown Police Area Command of an alleged road rage incident at the intersection of Saltash Street and Hume Highway, Yagoona.

Police were told an unknown man stopped his Subaru Forester in front of a Toyota RAV4, causing it to stop, before exiting his vehicle and smashing the passenger's side window of the Toyota with a metal pole.

He allegedly demanded money before striking a passenger of the Toyota – a 66-year-old man – to the head.

When police arrived a short time later, the unknown man allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle.

Police initiated a pursuit; however, it was terminated almost immediately due to safety concerns.

The 66-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment of a head injury.

A crime scene was established and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A short time later, police located the Subaru in the driveway of a home on Locker Avenue, Lurnea.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Inquiries are continuing.
