Police arrest man after siege situation - Canley Heights

A man has been arrested following a siege situation in Sydney's south west.

About 9.45pm yesterday (Sunday 16 May 2021), police were called to a home on Torrens Street, Canley Heights, following reports of a domestic-related incident.

Upon arrival, officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command and South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad spoke to a 36-year-old man before attempting to taser him.

During the process, he ran towards the rear garage and allegedly fired a shot at officers.

No one was injured during the incident.

A 61-year-old woman and two children – aged three and four – were also home at the time and uninjured.

A perimeter was established with assistance from specialist police units, including negotiators and the Tactical Operations Unit.

Just after 6.30am today (Monday 17 May 2021), the man exited the garage without incident and was arrested.

He has been taken to Fairfield Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.

Police remain at the scene and inquiries continue to locate items of interest.
