Police arrest man after siege - Taree West

A man has been arrested following an eight hour siege on the state's Mid North Coast.

About 7.50pm yesterday (Sunday 29 September 2019), officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District attended a home on Coulston Street, Taree West to speak with a 42-year-old man in relation to an apprehended violence order (AVO).

Upon arrival, the man allegedly threatened officers with an axe before retreating inside the home.

At this time, negotiators and Tactical Operations Regional Support officers were deployed to the scene.

It's alleged the man continued to threaten police for several hours before specialist police entered the premises and arrested the man without incident.

He has been taken to Forster Police Station where he will be charged with a number of offences including contravene AVO, use weapon to avoid apprehension and assault/intimidate police.
