Police arrest man after stand-off with police, South Australia

A man has been arrested following an incident overnight at Walkley Heights.

Just after 1am on Saturday 18 April, patrols pulled over a Toyota SUV on Walkleys Road for a routine traffic stop and spoke with the driver. The passenger allegedly gave police a false name and then ran off along River Walk carrying a bag.

Patrols gave chase as the man jumped fences before climbing onto the roof of a house in Creekview Drive and refusing to come down. The area was cordoned off and STAR Group officers along with police negotiators were called to the scene after the man claimed to have a firearm.

Just before 3.30am, the 30-year-old from Glanville surrendered to police and was arrested without further incident.

He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to be medically assessed and no firearms were located on him or in the bag he was carrying.

He is expected to charged later today.
