Police Arrest Man After Stolen Car Stalls

A man has been arrested following a short foot pursuit in Werribee this morning after a stolen car stalled.

The man first came to police attention following multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) about an erratic driver on Ballan Road about 8.30am.

The 2012 Nissan Navara, bearing stolen plates, was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road and on footpaths, narrowly missing pedestrians.

Local police found the car, which was believed to have stalled, in the middle of Synnot Street.

The driver tried to restart the vehicle and fled on foot before he was arrested in a chemist nearby.

The 21-year-old from Manor Lakes was transported to hospital under police guard.

Once released he will be interviewed by police.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses or motorists with dashcam who may have passed the vehicle, to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
