Police arrest man over attempted break-ins in Rundle Mall, South Australia

A man was arrested after allegedly trying to break into two city stores this morning.

Security alerted police to a man on a pushbike trying to jemmy his way into a shoe store and a cosmetics store in Rundle Mall about 5.15am on Monday 29 July.

The alarm activated and the suspect rode away on a bike but was tracked by CCTV.

Patrols quickly located the man nearby in Grenfell Street and arrested him.

It will be alleged that he kicked an officer in the face during the arrest. The officer sustained minor injuries.

The 47-year-old man was taken to the City Watch House where he is expected to be charged with two counts of attempted serious criminal trespass, resist arrest and assault police.

Crime scene investigators will attend the scene this morning.

Police are checking other businesses in Rundle Mall to see if any other stores have been broken into. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
