Police arrest man over Clearview incident

A man has been arrested after an incident at Clearview in May where a car was stolen with a child inside the vehicle.

It will be alleged that just after 11am on Thursday 18 May, a woman had parked her car at a business on Hampstead Road and got out for a brief moment. At this time, a man got into her white Mazda SUV. The woman attempted to stop him but she was pushed to the ground and he drove off.

The woman's one-year-old son was asleep in a car seat in the rear at the time of the theft.

Patrols quickly responded to the scene and searched neighbouring suburbs.

Police were able to track the car using the victim's mobile phone and the vehicle was located 20 minutes later in Rowe Circuit, Walkley Heights with the child safe inside.

Further investigations led police to Port Adelaide today where the man was arrested.

He was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and was refused bail to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.
