Police arrest seven teens at Lake Illawarra after carjacking in Dulwich Hill

Seven people have been arrested south of Wollongong after a SUV was allegedly carjacked at Dulwich Hill overnight.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command were called to a hotel in Hercules Street about 8.45pm (Saturday 5 October 2019), after a man reported he'd been threatened by up to four people, one armed with a knife.

The 60-year-old man told police he was dragged from his Toyota Kluger and allegedly kicked and punched to the ground before the group drove away in his vehicle.

A description of the SUV was broadcast to patrolling police and shortly before 9pm it was sighted on the M5 heading south.

The vehicle was tracked south along the Princes Highway and less than an hour later, road spikes were deployed at Dunmore, south of Oak Flats, disabling the vehicle and seven people were taken into custody.

Six males – including the 19-year-old alleged driver – and one 16-year-old girl were taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

One of the teenage boys has taken to Shellharbour Hospital to be checked as a precaution; he remains there under police guard.

The teens are now assisting police with inquiries.
