Police Arrest Suspects in Alice Springs Vehicle Theft 5 November

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested two youths and is continuing to investigate a stolen motor vehicle incident that occurred in Alice Springs yesterday.

Around 5:40am, police received a report of an Isuzu D-MAX being stolen from a residence on Basso Road in Stuart. The Isuzu was allegedly driven from the scene in the company of an unknown Holden Commodore.

Around 12pm, Strike Force Viper members sighted a previously reported stolen motorcycle being ridden by a youth near Bitzer Road. Upon seeing police, the youth allegedly abandoned the motorcycle and entered the stolen Isuzu, which headed north on the Stuart Highway.

Police tracked the vehicle as it continued north, where it allegedly drove onto dirt roads before ramming the gates of a nearby outstation. The Isuzu crossed the Stuart Highway and headed east on another dirt track before crossing the Plenty Highway and heading north towards Engawala.

A short time later it became bogged, with four occupants fleeing the vehicle on foot. Strike Force Viper members arrested a 13-year-old male and a 17-year-old female while the other two youths fled the scene.

The 17-year-old female has since been charged with driving, using, riding motor vehicle without consent and was remanded to appear in court today.

The 13-year-old was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.

As the pair were being conveyed to the Alice Springs Watch House, police received a report that the bogged vehicle had been set alight.

Police returned to the scene and continued searching for the two outstanding offenders into the evening. It is now believed the pair have travelled back to Alice Springs; however, they remain outstanding at this time with investigations ongoing to locate them.
