A teenager armed with a machete has been arrested and charged following an attempted aggravated carjacking in Delahey last night.
Police have been told a woman parked her vehicle in a shopping centre carpark on Taylors Road and got out of her vehicle before she was approached from behind about 7.35pm.
It is believed the 44-year-old victim was taking washing out of her car to attend a nearby laundromat when she felt what is alleged to have been a blade at her neck and shoulder.
The teen made demands for the woman's car keys and other items before he jumped in the vehicle and unsuccessfully tried to start the car.
Two good Samaritans intervened and challenged the boy, and he ran from the scene.
Attending units patrolled the area and arrested the 16-year-old near Kings Road.
The boy, who is from the Ballarat area, has been charged with attempted aggravated carjacking.
He has been held over to appear before a children's court today.
