Police arrest teens after stolen car pursuit at Bankstown

A teenage boy is facing court today after an overnight police pursuit of a stolen car which ended at Bankstown.

Around 8.50pm (Sunday 26 May 2019), highway patrol were conducting random breath testing on Canterbury Road when they noticed a Mazda 3 stopping short of the site.

The car did not stop when directed to do so. A pursuit began with the Mazda 3 stopping on Chertsey Avenue.

A 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the car, were arrested at the scene.

Inquiries revealed the Mazda 3 was stolen from Cabramatta around an hour before the teenagers were spotted by police.

The 15-year-old boy was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, drive in a manner dangerous to the public, take and drive in conveyance without consent of owner, drive conveyance w/o consent of owner, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and breach of bail.

He was refused bail prior to his appearance in children's court today (Monday 27 May 2019)

A 14-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the car, will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
