Police arrest two after attempted home invasion at Smithfield

Police have arrested two men during a vehicle stop following an alleged attempted home invasion at Smithfield earlier today.

About 1.40pm (Thursday 8 July 2021), officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were called to a home at Dublin Street, Smithfield, following reports two men – allegedly armed with weapons – had attempted to force entry into the premises.

A male occupant was not injured during the incident.

The men fled the scene in a white vehicle heading toward Chifley Street.

With assistance from PolAir, officers stopped a white Toyota a short distance away at the intersection of The Horsley Drive and Bourke Street, Smithfield.

Two men – aged 32 and 20 – were arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

A crime scene has been established at the home as investigations continue.
