Police arrest two woman over city handbag robbery, South Australia

Two women have been arrested after they allegedly assaulted and robbed a woman of her handbag this afternoon in the city.

Just before 1.30pm on Monday 20 January, two women allegedly stole a handbag from another woman inside Gouger Street shop and then ran south down a side street. The victim chased after the two suspects, but was then forcibly pushed to the ground and struck in the face.

The incident was witnessed by members of the public who alerted police and followed the two suspects towards Whitmore Square.

Eastern Adelaide Police patrols were quick to respond and cordoned off a premises where the women were last seen.

Detectives using a general search warrant to enter the dwelling, locating the two suspects, the stolen handbag as well as a second handbag believed to have been stolen over the weekend.

Two women aged 30 and 22-years-old both from Adelaide were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, theft and unlawful possession.

They are both likely to be remanded in police custody until a court appearance tomorrow 21 January.

The victim, a woman in her 20's was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with grazing to her face and hands.
