Police assaulted during traffic stop in Toronto

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting police during a traffic stop near Lake Macquarie last night, NSW Police say.

About 8pm yesterday, police will allege a man – with his 10-year-old son in the car – drove through a red light on The Boulevarde, Toronto.

Police pulled over the man for a roadside breath test which he allegedly refused.

The man allegedly resisted arrest then assaulted a police officer.

The officer suffered bruising and swelling to his arms and lacerations to his legs, arms and fingers.

The 48-year-old man was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station.

He was charged with refuse roadside breath test, refuse breath analysis, assault police, and resist arrest.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Toronto Local Court on Tuesday 3 October 2017.
