Police assaulted while arresting man following domestic in Mudgee

A man has been charged with multiple offences following a brief pursuit with police in Mudgee yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 4pm today, police will allege a 25-year-old man was involved in a domestic dispute at a home in Denison Street, Mudgee.

Police were called and officers from Mudgee Local Area Command attended the location however the man had left the scene prior to their arrival.

Details were taken including a description of the vehicle the man had left in.

About 4.15pm officers from Mudgee Target Action Group saw the vehicle and attempted to pull it over. Police will allege the driver failed to comply and sped away.

Officers activated warning devices and pursued the vehicle for a short distance into an access road where the vehicle stopped and the driver got out and allegedly ran in an attempt to avoid police.

Officers gave chase and caught the man. During his arrest police will allege the man assaulted a female police officer.

He was also allegedly found to be in possession of a large hunting knife.

He was taken to Mudgee Police Station where he was charged with the following offences;

• malicious damage (DV), intimidation (DV),

• police pursuit-not stop - drive dangerously,

• drive manner dangerously, drive vehicle while disqualified,

• drive with middle-range PCA,

• use offensive weapon to avoid lawful detention,

• assault police,

• resist arrest,

• custody of a knife in a public place.

He was refused bail and will appear in Mudgee Local Court tomorrow.
