Police Call for Help After 350kg Meth Seized in Sydney

The AFP is calling for public assistance after 350kg of methamphetamine, worth an estimated $323 million, was detected and seized from a container in Sydney.

The Australian Border Force (ABF) intercepted the container and examined it in April 2025, after it arrived in Port Botany, NSW, from the Middle East.

Further examination of the contents revealed about 350kg of methamphetamine hidden inside 35 specially manufactured metal pipes.

The AFP seized the drugs and allowed the container to be delivered to an address in Kemps Creek, NSW, where the container has remained. It is believed the business profile and details of a legitimate company were used for the importation in an attempt to evade law enforcement.

Inquiries are ongoing to identify the criminal syndicate responsible for the importation.

AFP Detective Acting Inspector Paul Watt said the seized methamphetamine had the potential to be sold as 3.5 million street-level deals.

"Criminal syndicates behind these failed importations don't care about the harm they cause and only care about the profits they can make," Det a/Insp Watt said.

"The community are our eyes and ears, and any information, however big or small, may help us identify those responsible for this failed importation.

"If you know anything about this consignment, please contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000 or report via crimestoppers.com.au."

ABF Inspector Noleen Shankar said the examination of the consignment was complex and intense, due to the sheer weight of the concealment.

"ABF officers are highly skilled to analyse and detect illicit drugs concealed within all types of industrial goods, including machinery and metal piping," Insp Shankar said.

"Our x-ray technology and scanning capabilities ensure each consignment is assessed in its entirety - not only examining the goods inside, but the structural integrity of the container and its associated compartments.

"Through our intelligence-led targeting and collaboration with our partner state and federal law enforcement counterparts, we are continuing to disrupt the outlandish criminal enterprises which prey on vulnerable Australians.

"We strive to uphold our commitment to maintaining the integrity of Australia's border every single day."
