Police call for information after man located deceased in water at Victoria Dock

Police are seeking public sightings of a man in the area around Victoria Dock in Hobart early this morning before he was located deceased in the water.

"Around 4.30am police responded to a report of a man in distress in the water at Victoria Dock in Hobart," said Acting Inspector Darren Latham.

"A man jogging past the dock saw a man in distress in the water and attempted to render assistance but unfortunately he disappeared under the waterline.

"Police responded to the scene within minutes but were unable to locate the man in the water.

"Police divers searched the water and sadly located the body of a deceased man around 6.15am.

"Anyone who saw the man in the vicinity of Victoria Dock between Evans and Argyle Streets, between 1.30am and 4.30am, is asked to come forward," said Acting Inspector Latham.

The man is described as early 30s, of Asian appearance, slim build, clean shaven with short dark hair. He was wearing black slacks, blue long sleeve business shirt, grey linen jacket, and brown RM Williams Boots.
