Police charge driver after fatal crash - North Epping

A man has been charged following investigations into a fatal crash at North Epping earlier this year.

About 10am on Friday 28 February 2020, emergency services were called to Malton Road, North Epping, after a Holden Commodore drove into tables outside a café.

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and treated 10 people for multiple non-life-threatening injuries.

A 40-year-old woman was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering critical injuries and later died.

Officers from Ryde Police Area Command attended and spoke with the 89-year-old male driver before taking him to Ryde Hospital for mandatory testing.

Following an investigation by officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit, the driver has now been charged with negligent driving occasioning death – first offence, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – first offence, and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).

His first appearance in court is scheduled for Monday 27 July 2020, at Burwood Local Court.
