Police charge four after affray, police officers allegedly assaulted in Liverpool

Four men have been charged after two police officers were allegedly assaulted responding to an affray in Sydney's south west earlier today.

Just before 1.30am (Sunday 3 March 2019), police were called to a licensed premises on Macquarie Street, Liverpool, after reports of a brawl involving up to 20 people.

On arrival of officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command, the group – who were on the street – separated and a number of men were given verbal directions.

It's alleged one man became aggressive towards police and as he was being restrained, the other men became violent towards officers.

Police will further allege a male senior constable was put in a headlock and hit several times in the head.

A constable was also allegedly assaulted while attempting to assist the injured senior constable who sustained bruising, swelling and lacerations to his head and minor lacerations to his arms and hands but did not require hospital treatment.

Additional police arrived and four men – aged 19, 23, 25 and 29 – were arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station.

The 29-year-old Bonnyrigg man was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, assault officer in execution of duty (x2), resist officer in execution of duty, resist or hinder police in the execution of duty, and affray.

The 25-year-old Cabramatta man was charged with affray, resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and possess prohibited drug.

The 23-year-old Bonnyrigg man was charged with assault officer in execution of duty, resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and affray.

The 19-year-old Bonnyrigg man was charged with resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and refuse/fail to comply with direction.

They were all granted bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 27 March 2019.
