Police charge man after armed robberies - Port Stephens

A man will face court today charged in relation to two armed robberies in Port Stephens.

About 2.15pm on Friday (13 September 2019), a man entered a store on Soldiers Point Road, Salamander Bay, and allegedly threatened a 39-year-old female with a deodorant can.

The employee activated an alarm system and the man fled the scene.

Two men nearby apprehended the man, but he managed to escape.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District arrived a short time later and arrested a 21-year-old man hiding behind a bin on Foreshore Drive.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with attempted armed robbery and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

The man appeared at Newcastle Local Court on Saturday 14 September, where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear at the same court today (Tuesday 17 September 2019).

Following inquiries into the alleged armed robbery of an Anna Bay service station on Monday 9 September 2019, detectives from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District arrested the same 21-year-old man at a Salamander Bay home yesterday (Monday 16 September 2019).

Police will allege a man entered the service station on Nelson Bay Road and allegedly threatened a 59-year-old female employee with a knife, before fleeing with cash and cigarettes.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon.

The man was refused bail to face Raymond Terrace Local Court today (Tuesday 17 September 2019).
