Police charge man after assault in state's south

A man has been charged over an alleged assault in the state's south.

About 8.15pm Tuesday (22 April 2023), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District were called to a residence on Cudgel Street, Yanco, following reports two men had allegedly been assaulted.

On arrival, police found a 36-year-old man and a 55-year-old man with several injuries to their heads, arms, and legs.

The two men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Griffith Hospital; however the 36-year-old man was later taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition.

Police then commenced an investigation into the incident and following extensive inquires a 30-year-old man was arrested about 6.20pm Sunday (23 April 2023), in Leeton and taken to Leeton Police Station.

The man was charged with several assault charges including reckless wounding.

He was refused bail to appear in Griffith Local Court yesterday (Monday 24 April 2023), the man was refused bail to appear again on Thursday 6 May 2023.
