Police charge man after assault - Surry Hills

Police have charged a man with multiple offences including assault following an incident this morning.

About 3.15am today (Monday 3 June 2019) a 31-year-old man was seen allegedly breaking into a Hyundai i30 parked on Josephson Street, Paddington. A 32-year-old witness confronted the man, who then hit him in the face and threatened him, before walking away.

A short time later, police arrested a man on Little Dowling Street, Paddington. Upon searching the man, police located a large amount of property including phones, jewellery, bank cards and a small amount of drugs.

Inquiries revealed that the man was also wanted for a Break, Enter and Steal in North Sydney from January this year and had three outstanding warrants.

The man was also identified as being illegally in the country. Immigration authorities have been notified.

The man was charged with:

  • Break, enter and steal
  • Steal from a motor vehicle
  • Common assault
  • Intimidation
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Possess house breaking implements
  • 3x goods in custody
  • Breach of bail
  • Three outstanding warrants

The Irish national was refused bail and will appear before Central Local Court today (Monday 3 January 2019).
