Police charge man after assaulting two taxi drivers - Balmain

A man will face court next month charged over the alleged assault of two taxi drivers in Sydney's Inner West last month.

Just before 10.30pm on Saturday 28 May 2022, emergency services were called to Mullens Street, Balmain, after reports of a brawl.

Police were told a taxi driver, a 50-year-old man, was dropping off two male passengers when one of the men became aggressive towards him.

The pair became involved in an altercation outside the vehicle when another taxi nearby stopped, and the driver, a 29-year-old man, attempted to separate them.

The male passenger then allegedly assaulted the younger driver before fleeing on foot.

Both taxi drivers were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for injuries to their faces. One of the drivers was taken to hospital with a significant laceration above his right eye.

A crime scene was established and underwent forensic examination.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries and a public appeal, a 31-year-old man was arrested after attending Newtown Police Station about 7am today (Monday 6 June 2022)

He was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal), common assault, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Belfield man was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Friday 1 July 2022.
