Police charge man after attempting to suffocate 10-month-old baby - Schofields

A man has been charged with domestic-violence offences after allegedly attempting to suffocate a baby and sexually assaulting a woman in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 12.30pm (Sunday 2 February 2020), officers from Quakers Hill Police Area Command were called to a house on Elgin Street, Schofields, after reports of a domestic-related incident.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene. The woman and child were taken to Blacktown Hospital for assessment and have since been released.

A crime scene was established, and investigators commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The man was taken to Riverstone Police Station and charged with three counts of intentionally choke person with recklessness (DV) and two counts of sexual intercourse without consent (DV).

Police will allege in court the man attempted to suffocate the child twice. It will be further alleged he choked a 25-year-old woman and sexually assaulted her twice earlier that day.

He was refused bail to appear before Blacktown Local Court today (Monday 3 February 2020).
