Police charge man after bus driver spat on - Eastgardens

A man has been charged after allegedly spitting at a bus driver and assaulting police in Sydney's south.

About 10pm yesterday (Monday 25 May 2020), a 42-year-old man boarded a bus at a shopping centre on Bunnerong Road, Eastgardens, but was asked to get off when he allegedly became aggressive with the driver.

Police will allege in court that the man then spat at the bus driver, a 52-year-old man.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area command attended and arrested the man, before he allegedly became violent and struck an officer in the neck.

The man was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, assault police officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty, common assault, and breach bail.

He has been refused bail to appear before Central Local Court today (Tuesday 26 May 2020).
