A man will face court today charged following an alleged car theft and pursuit in the state's Orana region this week.
About 4am on Tuesday 7 April 2026, a silver Toyota Hilux was reportedly stolen from a residence on Torwood Road, Dubbo.
About 3.30pm yesterday (Thursday 9 April 2026), officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District were investigating an allegedly stolen vehicle on Railway Lane, Dubbo, when they observed a silver Toyota Hilux enter a property.
Police will allege the vehicle failed to stop despite police direction to do so, and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through the property and onto Railway Lane, before allegedly driving off the road near a rail corridor. Police allegedly located the vehicle abandoned a short time later.
Following inquiries – and with the assistance of the Dog Unit and further police resources – officers arrested a 22-year-old man in the vicinity a short time later after he allegedly fled on foot.
He was taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously.
He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 4 today (Friday 10 April 2026).
