Police Charge Man After Carjacking At Goulburn

A man has been charged following an alleged carjacking in the state's southern tablelands.

About 7:30am today (Monday 2 March 2026), police were told a 62-year-old man was sitting in the driver's seat of an SUV when he was approached by an unknown man, who allegedly opened the driver's door, before threatening and assaulting and driver.

The man allegedly left the scene in the stolen car.

The driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance officers for facial injuries before being taken to Goulburn Hospital in a stable condition.

A short time later officers attached to The Hume Police District received reports of a vehicle allegedly driving erratically on the Hume Hwy, Goulburn.

Following inquiries, the vehicle was located in the car park of a hospital in Goldsmith Street, Goulburn.

Police attempted to speak with the driver; however, he allegedly attempted to leave the scene in the vehicle before he was stopped by officers and arrested.

The 34-year-old man allegedly ran from officers but was detained nearby.

He was taken to Goulburn Police station and charged with:

  • Aggravated robbery
  • Escape police custody
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
  • Possess identification information to commit, facilitate commission of an indictable offence

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 tomorrow, Tuesday March 3, 2026.

The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
