Police Charge Man After Citizen's Arrest In Southbank

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged burglary in Southbank overnight.

It is alleged the man broke into a convenience store on Southbank Boulevard around 3.30am.

The man allegedly attempted to flee with a quantity of cigarettes.

The owners of the business were alerted by an alarm and attended the store.

The man was arrested by the pair and was handed over to police a short time later.

The man was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

A 50-year-old Footscray man was later charged with burglary and unlawful assault.

He was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on the 14 June.
