About 8.15am (Tuesday 4 August 2026), emergency services were called to a school on Koola Avenue, East Killara, after reports of a vehicle being stolen and a pedestrian hit.
Officers attached to Kuring Gai Police Area Command attended and were told a 59-year-old man had exited the vehicle, when soon after an unknown man entered the vehicle and attempted to drive off.
The vehicle hit the 59-year-old man before coming to a stop, where members of the public detained the driver, a 39-year-old man, before the arrival of police.
He was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Hornsby Police Station.
