An unlicensed driver has been charged after crashing into a parked car in Dapto yesterday.
About 9.50pm (Wednesday 3 March 2021), officers from Lake Illawarra Highway Patrol were patrolling the Princes Highway at Dapto, when they allegedly witnessed a Holden Cruze sedan travelling above the posted speed limit and swerving between lanes.
Police gestured for the vehicle to stop, and when the vehicle failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.
A short time later, the Holden collided with a parked car on Fowlers Road.
The driver fled on foot and was arrested a short distance away. He was taken to hospital for blood and urine testing before being taken to Wollongong Police Station.
The 19-year-old man has since been charged with never licensed person drive vehicle on road, police pursuit, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, speed manner dangerous, custody of knife in public place and not give particulars to other driver.
It’s alleged the driver reached speeds of 130km/h; more than double the posted speed limit.
The Central Coast man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 4 March 2021).
