Police charge man after damaging police car

Public Order Response Team officers have charged a man after he allegedly threw a bottle at a police car in Docklands on Friday.

It is alleged the man threw a glass bottle at Melbourne West Police Station on Spencer Street about 11.30pm.

The man also allegedly threw a bottle at a patrolling police vehicle on Spencer Street shortly afterwards.

There were no injuries and the bottle caused minor damage to the police car.

The 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He has been charged with three counts of assault emergency worker, criminal damage and discharge a missile.

The Melbourne man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 1 February, 2024.

Police are also investigating damage to a second police car parked outside Melbourne West Police Station around the same time.

Investigations into this matter remain ongoing.
