Police charge man after death of pedestrian at Blacktown

A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly struck by a car while crossing the road earlier this week in Sydney's south west.

Just before 1pm on Monday 7 November 2022, a 52-year-old woman was crossing a pedestrian light- controlled crossing at the intersection of Third Avenue and Prince Street at Blacktown, when she was allegedly struck by a Toyota HiAce van.

The woman was thrown to the road sustaining serious injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established by officers from Blacktown Police Area Command and forensically examined by officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

On Tuesday 8 November 2022, the 27-year-old driver was served a court attendance notice for dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm).

About 10.30am yesterday (Thursday 10 November 2022), the woman died in hospital.

Following her death, the man was arrested and taken him to Blacktown Police Station. He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving (occasioning death).

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday 20 December 2022.

A brief will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
