Police charge man after Derrimut hit and run

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following the death of a pedestrian in Derrimut yesterday.

A 27-year-old Sunshine West man was allegedly struck by a car on Boundary Road, between William Angliss Drive and Mt Derrimut Road, just before 3.50am.

Police will allege the car involved was dumped nearby before the driver fled the scene.

Last night, a 36-year-old Wyndham Vale man handed himself in to a police station about 11pm.

Today, he has been charged with:

• failure to stop

• failure to render assistance

• driving whilst disqualified

• driving unregistered vehicle

• use false licence plate, and

• bail related offences.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 7 May.
