A man has been charged in relation to a domestic violence related serious assault, police assault and attempt to escape custody in Singleton.
After 9pm on Tuesday 28 May 2019, a man approached a woman as she was entering her home on Andrews Street, Singleton, accompanied by her step-father. The woman entered the premises and called triple zero while her step-father asked the man to leave.
The 29-year-old man returned to his vehicle and allegedly drove towards the step-father, colliding with him and a telegraph pole.
The man then forced entry into the premises, armed with a baseball bat, and intimidated the woman before leaving.
Singleton Police responded and arrested the male in his vehicle a short distance from the premises.
While in custody at Singleton Police Station, the man allegedly assaulted a sergeant while attempting to escape. He was detained within the police station.
The step-father, aged 51, suffered a compound fracture and was air lifted to hospital. The police officer also attended hospital and was later discharged with a graze to his eye and concussion.
The man was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (intimidation), assault police and attempt escape custody.
The man was refused bail and will appear in Cessnock Local Court today (Wednesday 29 May 2019).
