Detectives from the Major Drug Squad have charged a man overnight after seizing drugs and cash in Melbourne's north yesterday.
With assistance from Australian Border Force officers, a search warrant was executed shortly after 7am at an address in Delahey on Thursday, 27 April.
A 43-year-old Delahey man was charged with traffick commercial quantity drug of dependence (1,4-Butanediol), possess proceeds of crime and other identity fraud related offences.
He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 24 July.
Police subsequently seized a commercial quantity of what appears to be 1,4-Butanediol, a quantity of what is suspected to be methylamphetamine as well as cash.
Investigators will allege he was importing drugs into Australia via international consignments.
1,4 Butanediol is a drug commonly imported as an industrial product and then often sold at significant profit to people who are led to believe it is GHB.
The drug can be unpredictable and because it works more slowly than the similar GHB, users are at risk of overdosing because they are likely to take a second or third dose. The difference between survival and a fatal overdose can be very small.
