Police charge man after East Melbourne copper theft

Melbourne Tasking Unit officers have charged a man after $30,000 worth of copper was allegedly stolen from a building site in East Melbourne earlier this year.

It is alleged two men attended a construction site on Victoria Parade and stole two drums of copper about 2.15am on Wednesday, 27 July.

They fled the scene in an older model Ford utility towards Melbourne West.

Police executed search warrants at two addresses in Sunshine relating to the theft on Thursday, 29 September.

A 59-year-old Sunshine man was arrested in Melbourne's CBD.

He's since been charged with theft and other offences and will appear at Sunshine Magistrates' Court on 14 March, 2023.

One man is still outstanding, and investigators are keen to speak to anyone with information.
