Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man as a result of an alleged stabbing in Elwood on Sunday 26 January.
Police were told a woman was allegedly stabbed in Southey Grove about 7.30pm.
The 65-year-old Elwood woman was taken to hospital and is in a critical but stable condition.
A 55-year-old Elwood man has been charged with three offences, including attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury and recklessly causing serious injury.
He has been held over to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today, Monday 27 January.
