Police Charge Man After Evading Police In Ballarat

Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after he allegedly evaded police in a stolen car across several streets and suburbs in the Ballarat area yesterday afternoon.

Police first sighted the white Toyota Prado in Canadian about 9.15am on Monday, 8 December.

With the assistance of the Air Wing, police tracked the vehicle as it allegedly drove erratically and dangerously causing significant risk to the public across suburbs including Redan, Ballarat and Wendouree.

Police bought the Toyota to a stop by ramming it on Gillies Street, near Howitt Street in Wendouree about 12.05pm to prevent any further serious risk to the community.

A 35-year-old Sebastopol man was arrested, he has been charged with:

  • recklessly expose an emergency services worker (x7),
  • theft of motor vehicle,
  • dangerous driving whilst being pursued,
  • reckless conduct endangering serious injury,
  • possess methyl-amphetamine,
  • fail to answer bail,
  • unlicensed driving and other related charges.

He was remanded to appear before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on 9 December.

No one was injured during the alleged incident.
