Police charge man after fatal crash - Banoon

A man has been charged following an investigation into a fatal single-vehicle crash north-west of Tamworth earlier this month.

About 1.10pm on Thursday 5 March 2020, emergency services were called after reports of a vehicle roll-over on Banoon Road, Banoon near Borah Creek.

The Volkswagon Golf hatchback rolled multiple times before crashing into a tree.

A 49-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene. The driver, a 45-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Tamworth Hospital for treatment.

Officers from Oxley Police District established a crime scene, before the Northern Tablelands Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following inquiries, today (Friday 13 March 2020), the 45-year-old was arrested at Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with negligent driving occasioning death.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 6 April 2020.
