A man has been charged following a three-vehicle fatal crash in the state's north in August.
About 3pm on Sunday 17 August 2025, emergency services were called to the Kamilaroi Highway, about 10km east of Wee Waa, following reports of a crash.
On arrival, officers attached to Oxley Police District were told a semi-trailer, tractor, and light rigid horse truck towing a caravan had been involved in the crash.
A member of the public – an unidentified man who was not involved in the crash – provided first aid to a 14-year-old boy, who was a passenger of the horse truck.
NSW Ambulance paramedics also treated the boy; however, he died at the scene.
The driver of the horse truck – a 38-year-old man – has been taken to hospital in a stable condition for treatment and mandatory testing.
One horse occupying the horse truck was euthanised due to their injuries, while three other horses were taken away for treatment.
The driver of the tractor – a 66-year-old man – and semi-trailer – a 33-year-old man – were not injured and were taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Police established a crime scene which was forensically examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Today, (10 October 2025), the 38-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday 8 December 2025.
